Isaac Claims First Group Victory To Keep Hopes Alive
filed on Monday, November 26, 2012.   10:49am PT/USA

Sargon Isaac has kept his hopes alive of advancing into the knockout stage of the 2012 International Billiards & Snooker Federation (IBSF) World Snooker Championships, as the United States National Snooker Champion claimed a comprehensive Group F victory in the Men's Event at the Dedeman Princess Hotel in the Bulgarian capital of Sofia.

After two defeats the 27-year-old from California could afford nothing less than a good victory over Paul Croitoru once their match got underway today at 2pm local time, and it transpired that the Romanian was no match for Isaac as he won four straight frames in rapid fashion to record a 4-0 success.

Isaac must now focus all his attention on his final Group F opponent, China's 16-year-old Zhu Yinghui, as a win should insure that he will claim the group's third place to advance into the single elimination knockout stage of the event. This vital match will commence tomorrow (November 27) at 2pm local time, 4am Pacific Time in the United States.

Jeff Szafransky was also back in action today in the Masters' Event at 12pm local time, as he took on Brendan Cooney in Group E.

Szafransky unfortunately though could not repeat the success he had in his first match as he was decisively defeated by the Irishman 3-0, but his hopes are still very much alive in attempting to advance into the single elimination knockout stage of the event.

The 56-year-old from California will next match up against Israel's Yakov Shaashua, with the tie getting underway at 12pm local time, 2am Pacific Time in the United States.

Ajeya Prabhakar, the United States' second representative in the Men's Event, had no match to play today, but will contest his two remaining Group B matches tomorrow (November 27) against Kamal Chawla from India at 10am local time, 12am Pacific Time in the United States, and then at 7pm local time, 9am Pacific Time in the United States, against China's Jin Long.
