New USSA Tour season breaks off with Carbin conquest
filed on Sunday, November 23, 2014.   11:48pm PT/USA

The 2014-15 United States Snooker Association (USSA) Tour season, sponsored by Aramith Billiard Balls, Ozone Billiards, Sterling Gaming and the Tweeten Fibre Co., got underway this weekend with Event 1 and Paul Carbin taking the title at the Prince Snooker Club in Brooklyn, New York.

With a full field of players divided into four groups, Carbin, who grew up and developed his snooker skills in Ireland, was drawn into a very tough Group A where he finished on exactly the same record as Raymond Fung, the runner-up in this year's United States National Snooker Championship, and also Kevin Wong.

To determine the two advancing players from the group, lots were drawn for the first placed player, and the two remaining players would play a one-frame playoff match with the winner advancing in second place. Wong was drawn in first place, and Carbin then proceeded to win the one-frame playoff over Fung, repeating the 2-1 victory he had gained against him in their group match.

In the quarterfinals Carbin then went on to claim a narrow 3-2 win over Henry Wong, who was a semifinalist in this year's United States National Snooker Championship, and he booked his place in the final with a 3-1 success over William Chu.

In the final he faced Tim Lee, a previous winner of this event on the 2012-13 USSA Tour, he came through by winning Group D, and then he took out Ning Ng 3-1 in the quarterfinals, before securing his final appearance with a 3-1 semifinal success over Laszlo Kovacs.

Carbin has been a multiple winner of events on the USSA Tour, and he sealed his latest victory with a 4-2 win over Lee in the final.

The USSA would like to thank the proprietor of the Prince Snooker Club, Tommy Chen, who is a valued and generous host of snooker events in the United States, and much gratitude goes to the Tour sponsors, Aramith Billiards Balls, Ozone Billiards, Sterling Gaming and the Tweeten Fibre Co. for their support.

Tour Event 2 of the season is due to take place at the Houston Snooker Club in Houston, Texas, from November 28-30.
