American players set to learn fate in Doha
filed on Wednesday, November 23, 2016.   8:29pm PT/USA

The fate of the United States players at the 2016 International Billiards & Snooker Federation (IBSF) World Snooker Championships will be determined as the final group matches will be contested at the Al-Sadd Sports Club Stadium in Doha, Qatar.

Ajeya Prabhakar was scheduled to be in action today, November 23, playing his penultimate Group K match in the Men's Event, however his opponent Ahmed Sarhan from Saudi Arabia withdrew from the Championships.

The twice former United States National Snooker Champion still remains in the best position of all the United States players to advance into the knockout rounds, as he will be the favorite to win his final group match against Jordan's Mohammad Alqraini when they play tomorrow, November 24, at 4pm local time (5am Pacific Time / 8am Eastern Time in the United States).

New Yorker Laszlo Kovacs played the Russian youngster Ivan Kakovsky in Group S in the Men's Event, and the 17-year-old showed his future promise with a string of excellent breaks of 40, 54 and 85 to race to a 4-0 victory.

Kovacs can now not qualify from the group, though he will play his final match tomorrow, November 24, at 4pm local time against Englishman Wayne Townsend.

Despite going down to the third Group B loss of his four matches after succumbing 3-0 to Iceland's Jón Ingi Ćgisson, Amitabh Seth still has the chance of going through to the knockout rounds of the Masters' Event.

Seth must now win his final group match tomorrow, November 24, against Russia's Andrey Vill, with the match commencing at 7pm local time (8am Pacific Time / 11am Eastern Time in the United States).

Jeff Szafransky's hopes of making it through to the knockout rounds of the Masters' Event have disappeared as he went down to a 3-1 defeat by Farhad Sayfoo of Mauritius in their Group C tie.

The Californian will play his final group match against Nasser Bomejdad of Kuwait tomorrow, November 24, at 7pm local time.
