First defeat for Prabhakar at IBSF Championships
filed on Monday, November 20, 2017.   11:56am PT/USA

On the third day's play of the 2017 International Billiards & Snooker Federation (IBSF) World Snooker Championships at the Al-Arabi Sports Complex in Doha, Qatar, Ajeya Prabhakar has suffered his first Group H defeat in the Men's Event.

The Californian had a huge task in front of him in Siyavosh Mozayani, who was defeated in the final of the 2014 Asian Under-21 Snooker Championship, and in the first frame he fired in breaks of 66 and 59 to go 1-0 ahead.

Prabhakar struggled as the 22-year-old Iranian imposed his authority as he then built a 3-0 advantage, before wrapping up the match 4-0 with a concluding break of 55.

With two matches remaining, the United States National Snooker Champion of 2000 and 2014 is still in a very good position to advance into the round of 64 as he endeavors to secure a top four placing in the group.

Prabhakar's fourth Group H match will be played tomorrow, November 21, against the 18-year-old Ka Wai Cheung from Hong Kong, and will commence at 1pm local time (2am Pacific Time / 5am Eastern Time in the United States).

Ahmed Aly Elsayed started his third Group F match against Mateusz Baranowski in great fashion, as he confidently took an early 2-0 lead assisted by a break of 50 in the first frame.

The 20-year-old from Poland then struck back with a break of 54 in frame three, and then leveled the tie by decisively taking the fourth frame.

Aly was unfortunate to lose the fifth frame on the final colors, and then lost out to a sixth frame break of 61 by Baranowski to lose 2-4.

With two Group F matches remaining, Aly needs to win at least one of them to have any chance of securing a round of 64 spot. The New Yorker however will have an incredibly tough next opponent as he will face the 2012 IBSF World Snooker Champion, Muhammad Asif of Pakistan, with the tie getting underway tomorrow, November 21, at 1pm local time (2am Pacific Time / 5am Eastern Time in the United States).

Balsara had a day off from competition but will return to Group C action tomorrow, November 21, when he will take on home player Bashar Abdulmajeed at 10am local time (11pm Pacific Time / 2am Eastern Time in the United States).
