Brazil's Figueiredo secures Houston qualifying event

Brazil's Igor Figueiredo has won the 2019 World Seniors Snooker Championship, United States qualifying event at Q Ball Snooker & Pool in Houston, Texas, to secure a berth in the main Championship event.

The World Seniors Snooker Championship is part of the World Seniors Tour orgnized by the World Professional Billiards & Snooker Association (WPBSA), the rules and regulation governing body for both snooker and English billiards around the world, and this was the sixth and final qualifying event for the 2019 Championship to have been staged around the world, and attracted players from Belgium, Bermuda, Brazil, Canada, England, Ireland and Pakistan, who all joined players from their United States host.

Figueiredo, who is the current World Snooker Federation (WSF) Seniors Snooker Champion, was in commanding form throughout as he worked his way through the 32-player field, only dropping one frame along the way and firing in a magnificent break of 146 in the round of 16.

The 41-year-old from Rio de Janeiro, who reached a highest ranking of 65 as a professional playing on the World Snooker Tour, defeated Daren Taylor 3-0 in the final assisted by runs of 50, 60 and 63.

Figueiredo will now compete in the final stage of 2019 World Seniors Snooker Championship in England in March, where he could come up against one of the legends of the sport such as the seven-times former World Snooker Champion, Stephen Hendry.

The 2019 World Seniors Snooker Champion will receive a prize of 25,000 British Pounds, and also be awarded a place in the draw to try and qualify for the most prestigious event of the professional World Snooker Tour, the 2019 World Snooker Championship at the Crucible in Sheffield, England.
