2019 IBSF World Snooker Championships. Starlight Resort Hotel - Antalya, Turkey. October 29 - November 9

Ahmed Aly Elsayed has kept his hopes alive of advancing from his group in the 2019 International Billiards & Snooker Federation (IBSF) World Snooker Championships as he chalks up his first victory on day four of play at the Starlight Resort Hotel in Antalya, Turkey.

In what was a must win match for Aly after two disappointing defeats in Group H of the Men's event, the reigning United States National Snooker Champion, who has been playing with a new cue due to a baggage delay with his original cue, finally found his touch against Tomas Kubicek.

Aly eased into a very comfortable 3-0 advantage over his 25-year-old opponent from the Czech Republic, assisted with a break of 69 in frame two and a break of 52 in frame three.

Kubicek pinched the fourth frame on the final colored balls, but the New Yorker wrapped up the match by securing a close fifth frame to record a 4-1 win.

Aly has the whole weekend to focus on his final Group match, as he will take on Qatar's Mhanaa Alobaidli on Monday with victory guaranteeing him a place in the knockout stage.

Ajeya Prabhakar's prospects of qualifying from Group L in the Men's event were dealt a major blow after losing to Osip Zusmanovic.

Tied at 2-2 with the 24-year-old from the Czech Republic, the Californian then lost two successive frames closely contested on the final colored balls for a deeply frustrating 4-2 defeat.

The two-time former United States National Snooker Champion now needs to score a 4-2 or better victory in his final Group match against home player Kayhan Durukan tomorrow Saturday, or he will be eliminated from the event.

Laszlo Kovacs will not be progressing from Group M in the Men's event, as the New Yorker lost his third Group tie 4-2 to Milad Fathpour Kashani of Iran.

In the Masters' event, Nitin Mehta lost his second Group M match 3-1 to Welshman Steven Thomas, though can still advance into the knockout stage by winning both of his remaining matches, and the same principle also applies to Amitabh Seth who lost his second Group N match 3-0 to India's Alok Kumar.
