2021 United States National Snooker Championship

Raymond Fung has claimed his spot in the quarterfinals of the 2021 United States National Snooker Championship at the New York Athletic Club (NYAC), as the former champion gained revenge over Cheang Ciing Yoo for his defeat in the semifinals of the 2019 Championship.

As Fung — who went into this Championship as the number two seed — did not win his Group and had to book his Round of 16 berth after winning a Group playoff, he had to face the 2019 Championship runner-up and number four seed at this early stage in the event.

Yoo claimed a shock 4-1 win over Fung in 2019, though the player from Brooklyn was up for the challenge as he swept to a comfortable 3-0 win, and he will now take on Arif Mahmood who defeated Kevin Wong 3-1 after a marathon encounter.

The defending champion is safely through to the last-8, though Ahmed Aly Elsayed lost the first frame of his tie against Dharma Hemnani but went onto claim a 3-1 victory.

The twice former champion Ajeya Prabhakar continues his smooth progress through the Championship, as the Californian is yet to lose a frame as he defeated Tim Lee 3-0 to advance into his tenth successive quarterfinal.

The 1pm session of Round of 16 matches is now uderway, where the 2006 Championship runner-up Romil Azemat is in action.
