U.S. snooker nominations for World Games

Ahmed Aly Elsayed and Renat Denkha will represent the United States in the snooker event of the 2022 World Games, with the Games taking place in Birmingham, Alabama, from July 7 - 17.

The World Games, which were first held in 1981 in Santa Clara, California, are an international multi-sports event for International Olympic Committee (IOC) recognized sports that are not currently contested in the Olympic Games.
The World Games are organized and governed by the International World Games Association (IWGA), under the patronage of the IOC.
There are six categories of sports which are included in the World Games, and these are Artistic & Dance Sports, Ball Sports, Martial Arts, Precision Sports, Strength Sports and Trend Sports.
Snooker is in the Precision Sports category under the umbrella of Billiards Sports, and the snooker event will be contested alongside events for pool and 3-cushion carom, from July 13 - 17.

The snooker event consists of a 16-player field with participants nominated from countries and regions all around the world.
Aly was nominated by the United States Snooker Association (USSA) to compete as the national champion of the host nation, while Denkha was nominated by the continental governing body, the Pan American American Billiards & Snooker Association (PABSA), as the runner-up in last year's most recent staging of the Pan American Snooker Championship.
Billiards Sports were introduced into the World Games in 2001 when the Games were held in the Japanese city of Akita, and this will be the second occasion to feature American representation in the snooker event when Ajeya Prabhakar competed in the Colombian city of Cali.
Alan Morris, the Executive Director of the USSA, said: "We are so pleased to have two representatives participating in the snooker event on home soil, which is a wonderful opportunity to showcase and promote our great sport to a wider American sporting audience."
