Aly loses out to Ramzan at World Games snooker

Ahmed Aly Elsayed has been eliminated from the World Games snooker event at the Sheraton Hotel in Birmingham, Alabama, as the American succumbed in the round of 16 to the reigning International Billiards & Snooker Federation (IBSF) World Snooker Men's Champion, Ahsan Ramzan, from Pakistan.

With four of the round of 16 matches taking place on the first day's play of snooker competition, the reigning United States National Snooker Champion faced the difficult task of taking on the 16-year-old prodigy from Pakistan, who is ranked as the number seed to take the Gold medal.

Ramzan took the first frame but the player from New York City then hit back by winning frame two.

A third frame break of 66 put the Pakistani cueist ahead 2-1, and although Aly had led the fourth frame right up until the final colored balls, he was caught out in the end to suffer a 3-1 defeat.

In the quarterfinals Ramzan will match up against Hong Kong's Cheung Ka Wai who had a comfortable 3-0 round of 16 victory over Great Britain's Wayne Brown.

The day's two other round of sixteen matches produced comfortable 3-0 results in favor of Germany's Umut Dikme and Qatar's Ali Al Obaidli, who had respective wins over Bahrain's Habib Subah and Thailand's Taweesap Kongkitchertchoo.

The highlight of the second day's play of the snooker event from an American perspective will be the appearance of Chicago's Renat Denkha, who was runner-up in last year's Pan American Snooker Championship, when he faces Austria's Florian Nüßle in the round of 16.
