All set for semifinals at World Games snooker

The semifinals have been decided for the snooker event of the 2022 World Games, after the completion of day three of play at the Sheraton Hotel in Birmingham, Alabama.

There was a surprise result in the first quarterfinal tie played as the number seed to take the Gold medal, the reigning International Billiards & Snooker Federation (IBSF) World Snooker Men's Champion, 16-year-old Ahsan Ramzan, was defeated 3-1 by 23-year-old Cheung Ka Wai from Hong Kong.

Cheung will now face Ali Al Obaidli in the semifinals, as the 30-year-old from Qatar secured a 3-1 victory over Germany's Umut Dikme.

Abdelrahman Shahin booked his berth in the semifinals as the 24-year-old from Egypt scored a terrific 3-1 success over the reigning IBSF World Under-21 Snooker Champion, Florian Nüßle from Austria.

The eldest competitor in this snooker event is going very strong as 56-year-old Darren Morgan, who was once ranked number eight as a professional on the World Snooker Tour, advanced into the semifinals after defeating 18-year-old Antoni Kowalski from Poland, 3-1.
