Cheung Ka Wai has won Hong Kong's first gold medal in the history of the World Games, as the 23-year-old defeated Egypt's Abdelrahman Shahin in the final of the snooker event at the Sheraton Hotel in Birmingham, Alabama.

The fifth and final day of the snooker competition is also the last day of the 2022 World Games, which has brought together 3,600 athletes from 110 nations around the world.

Cheung, who made it to the final after victories over Great Britain's Wayne Brown, Pakistan's Ahsan Ramzan and Qatar's Ali Alobaidli, displayed his calm and stylish demeanor around the table throughout this tie and he took the first frame with a fine break of 68.

Shahin, who showed some impressive form throughout this snooker competition by defeating Brazil's Victor Sarkis, Austria's Florian Nüßle and Great Britain's Darren Morgan, comfortably secured frame two to level the match.

However from that point on in the match the player from Hong Kong took control, as Shahin lost a bit of his composure and looked nervous.

Cheung secured the next two frames to win the match 3-1 and Shahin picks up the silver medal for Egypt.
