filed Thursday, July 6, 2023.   6:27am PT/USA

Ahmed Aly Elsayed will make his debut as a professional player on the World Snooker Tour, as the United States player will play in Stage 1 of the 2023 Championship Snooker League ranking event in Leicester, England, on July 7.

Aly gained his professional status on the World Snooker Tour for the coming two seasons, 2023-24 and 2024-25, after he won the Open Event of last year's Pan American Snooker Championship.

Aly is playing in Group 23 where he will play the first match of the Group against China's Fan Zhengyi, world ranked 34 coming into this Championship, and winner of last year's European Masters ranking event.

The six-times former United States National Snooker Champion will then face England's Sam Craigie, world ranked 53 coming into this Championship, in his second match, before then playing his final Group match against Ireland's Fergal O'Brien, world ranked 107.

Championship League Snooker is split into three stages, with all matches during all stages played as the best-of-four frames (if a match finishes 3-0, the fourth frame will not be played), except the final of the Championship which is best-of-five frames.

Only the Group winner will advance into the next stage of the Championship.
