Playing for the right to appear in the main event in Nuremberg, Germany, from August 22-27, Davis is a fierce and experienced competitor who turned professional back in 1991 and has been world ranked in the top-16, though is currently down at 65.

The former three-times Six-red World Champion was never going to be an easy task for for Aly to overcome, however he was provided with many opportunities but was unable to capitalize on them.

After going 2-0 behind, Aly then managed to bank the next frame but then put up little resistance as he succumbed to a 5-1 defeat (Match scoresheet).

Aly commented after the match that it just did not happen for him, despite having lots of chances.

Aly has been drawn against top-16 world ranked player Gary Wilson in the British Open, and so he will go to play his first match at the main arena in Cheltenham, England, on September 25. So his next World Snooker Tour matches will be from September 1-8 when he returns to Leicester to compete in qualifying for the English Open and Wuhan Open.
