2019 IBSF World Snooker Championships. Starlight Resort Hotel - Antalya, Turkey. October 29 - November 9

Ajeya Prabhakar has got his Group L campaign in the Men's event of the 2019 International Billiards & Snooker Federation (IBSF) World Snooker Championships off to a fantastic start, as the Californian cued his way to record the first American victory at the Starlight Resort Hotel in Antalya, Turkey.

The two-time former United States National Snooker Champion was up against a very capable opponent in Shachar Ruberg, though he put in a very fine performance to defeat the 25-year-old from Israel.

Ruberg, who was a semifinalist in this year's European International Snooker Open, yesterday won his first Group match 4-0 against the Czech Republic's Osip Zusmanovic but lost his first frame of the Men's event when Prabhakar sealed it on the final black.

The Israeli was back on level terms after securing frame two, however a break of 68 by Prabkahar in the next frame edged him ahead once more at 2-1.

The match was all-square again after the fourth frame as Ruberg claimed it right at the end, but Prabhakar knuckled down to win the next frame and a 53 break in frame six clinched a superb 4-2 win.

Ahmed Aly Elsayed kicked-off his Group H quest in the Men's event with an unsuccessful start, as the reigning United States National Snooker Champion faced a very talented 16-year-old from China called Zhao Jianbo.

Zhao, who was invited to play in last month's Shanghai Masters though lost 6-2 to Ding Junhui, displayed what a great future prospect in the sport he is as he produced breaks of 64, 64 and 69 to defeat the New Yorker 4-1, though qualification out of the Group is still well within Aly's hands.

In the Masters' event, Nitin Mehta suffered defeat in his first Group M match, as he went down 3-1 to England's Graham Beardmore, and Amitabh Seth lost his first Group N tie to Iceland's Gušni Pįlsson, 3-0.
