Aly to become first American to play at the Crucible

When Ahmed Aly Elsayed plays in next month's World Seniors Snooker Championship at the Crucible in Sheffield, England, from May 4 - 8, he will become the first American player to walk down the famous Crucible steps into the arena to play a snooker match.

Once the 2022 World Snooker Championship concludes on May 2, the arena will then be prepared to welcome 24 players from around the world to compete in the 2022 World Seniors Snooker Championship.

Aly earned his qualification to play at the Crucible by winning last year's Pan American Seniors Snooker Championship title staged at The Corner Bank in Toronto, Canada, where he defeated the former Canadian professional player Levi Meiller in the final 4-1.

Eigth players have been seeded into the round of 16 of this Championship of which are the defending champion, David Lilley, and also the former World Champions Stephen Hendry, Ken Doherty, John Parrott and Joe Johnson. The six-times World Championship runner-up and former World Seniors Champion Jimmy White, plus Peter Lines and Michael Holt.

Aly, the reigning and six-time United States National Snooker Champion, will play Wayne Cooper, a former professional player from England, in a round of 24 tie which will commence on Thursday, May 5, at 2:30pm local British time (6:30am PT / 9:30am ET in the United States), with the winner facing the wonderful prospect of taking on the 1997 World Champion, Ken Doherty, in the round of 16.
