The United States' Andy McCloskey has qualified for Stage 2 of the Men's event of the 2025 International Billiards & Snooker Federation (IBSF) World Snooker Championships in Doha, Qatar.
The Championships, which have events for both Men and Women, will now feature three players representing the United States in Stage 2 of the Men's event, as this year's United States National Snooker Champion and runner-up, Renat Denkha and Ajeya Prabhakar respectively, automatically qualified to compete in Stage 2.
Stage 1 consisted of two single elimination events which were both played at the Qatar Billiards & Snooker Federation (QBSF) Academy, where 16 sixteen players have now advanced to join the 32 automatically qualified players for a 48-player Stage 2 to be contested at the Ezdan Palace Hotel.
Playing in the 1st event McCloskey scored a 4-1 success over Abdulla Alattar of the United Arab Emirates, however the Californian lost in the next round to Hong Kong's Nansen Wan, 4-2.
McCloskey has been in winning form in the United States this past year, as he won the 2024-25 Series Q Tour Americas event 2 at the Arizona Snooker Academy in December last year, and then back in August he won his second successive Seattle Snooker Open title.
In the 2nd event McCloskey defeated Sweden's Suleman Salam 4-1 before then going onto win 4-2 against Muhammad Sajjad of Pakistan to secure his appearance in Stage 2.
